Fishers are widespread throughout the northern forests of North America. They are found in the boreal and mixed deciduous-coniferous forest belt that runs across Canada from Nova Scotia in the east to the Pacific shore of British Columbia and north to Alaska.

Where can you find a fisher?
Fishers live only in North America. In the U.S., they're found from New England south to Tennessee; northern Great Lake states; northern Rockies; and several small West Coast populations in southwestern Oregon, northwestern California, and the southern Sierra Nevada.
How do fishers live?
Fishers prefer coniferous forests, but they are also found in mixed and deciduous forests. They prefer habitats with thick canopies. They also prefer habitats with many hollow trees for dens. Trees typically found in fisher habitats include spruce, fir, white cedar and some hardwoods.
