Status. This species is considered critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. It is thought to have a population of no more than 600 individuals with roughly 250 mature individuals.
Why is the white-headed langur endangered?
The white-headed langur, Trachypithecus leucocephalus, occurs only in these forests, but their fragmentation and degradation, along with illegal hunting, is driving them to extinction. It is one of the world's most endangered primates (Konstant et al. 2002–2003).
