Who owns Longridge Fell?
It lies at the southern end of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As its name suggests, it takes the form of a long ridge which rises in a north-easterly direction from within the town of Longridge to its summit 4.5 miles distant.
How did Longridge get its name?
The name Longridge belongs to the early history of Britain, it's origins lie with the Anglo-Saxons. It is a product of their having lived in the region of Langridge in the county of Somerset.

The woodland trail takes about 40 minutes to complete, taking you past Larch Avenue, Shield Wood, Tarn Wood, Middle Wood and the summit. As you go round the trail you will see the different species of trees that have been planted in the wood and the different habitats that they have created.

The parking area on Jeffrey Hill is a convenient starting point for our walk. Leave Longridge on the fell road to the golf club and on reaching Jeffrey Hill turn sharp right and park on the left.
